Foreigners who want to obtain a residency in investor category must make investments in Costa Rica not less than US$150,000. This first time residency will be granted for a period of two years (temporary residency).

In order to be able to renew their temporary residency for a permanent residency as an investor, in this case the applicant must demonstrate that they have maintained their investments uninterruptedly for a period of two years and thus be able to apply for permanent residency as an investor when renewing their DIMEX.

In addition, in the category of investor you can have dependents and grant a residence to your spouse, children under twenty-five years of age and older children with disabilities.

This category with the new reform in the Costa Rican Immigration law allows you the following

- Duty free and free of all import taxes, for the importation of your household goods.
- Import up to two vehicles for land, air and/or sea transportation, for personal or family use, free of all import, customs and value added taxes.
