October 16, 2023Consular Registration
One of the requirements that Migración y Extranjería is implementing again is the CONSULAR REGISTRATION, which will become effective on October 16, 2023, when it will be requested and must be presented as a general requirement of the migratory process in all categories.
What is the CONSULAR REGISTRATION?
This is a document that all foreigners must fill out and apply for at the embassies of their country. It is important to note that the steps and requirements vary from country to country. However, it is usually necessary to provide personal data (such as local address and a contact person). Where the embassies will issue a letter or card showing that the process was completed.
Embassies often use this information to establish polling stations abroad to assist their fellow citizens in matters of national security or emergencies.
Note: In countries such as the United States and Canada, this process is done online. Countries that do not have a presence in Costa Rica through an embassy or consulate may be exempt from this requirement.
