August 15, 2023Important Dimex Renewal Information
The Costa Rican immigration law is very explicit about what is stipulated, this law indicates that people with a permanent residence in the country, must renew their identity card, such renewal must be done within 30 days after its expiration, otherwise they must pay the amount of three dollars for each expired month or fraction of a month of delay.
If a person with residence remained out of the country for a period of more than one year, he/she must present a written document justifying the reasons and a certification of criminal record duly legalized and authenticated or apostilled from the country where he/she stayed. In case the person does not renew the document that accredits his/her migratory status in the country within the three months granted by the migratory law of Costa Rica following its expiration, it will be cancelled (Persons with Temporary Resident Migratory Categories and Special Categories), unless there are duly proven reasons that demonstrate the impossibility of doing so within said term.
